Brief History & Objectives of the Society of Servants of God

The Society of Servants of God (SSG) was started by God through Dr. Dinshah K. Mehta (known as “Dadaji” by his followers) when, after 17 years of inner struggle, on November 8, 1953, he finally accepted to follow what he referred to as “God Guidance.” His 17-year struggle had ensued largely because in his earlier life, Dr. Mehta was agnostic. He, therefore, had a hard time believing that the revelations he was receiving were from God, and his gradual “conversion” was brought about by the teachings he received from God. Many of these teachings, and the process through which they were received can be found in the publication Silence Speaks.

Subsequently, as guided, the Society of Servants of God was registered with the authorities in India as a charitable institution. Registration Certificate No. 31361 was issued to SSG on August 1, 1956, by the office of the Charity Commissioner and Dr. Dinshah K. Mehta became the first chairperson. However, Dr. Mehta maintained that the SSG was founded by God, through him and that God is the Eternal Chair of His Society and referred to the spiritual source that guided him as the Guiding Mind. Dr. Mehta is referred to as Revered Dadaji by his disciples and devotees of SSG. “Dadaji” means elder brother.

The Guiding Mind assigned the following missions to be fulfilled through the SSG:

  1. To help people realize the Divine Self within
  2. To introduce and propagate spiritual values in all walks of material life, including economics, politics and social life in general
  3. To bring about a unity in the diversity of religions

It is clear from the above three Missions, that those among us who wish to work to fulfill the three missions have to work internally and externally. To fulfill the above Missions and to help each of us live a life based upon Divine Guidance, we have to live a life based upon three sets of principles which have been received from the Guiding Mind through Revered Dadaji for the benefit of humanity. These three sets of principles are:

  • Seven Principles of Right Surrender
  • Seven Principles of God Guidance through Force of Circumstances
  • Seven Principles of Karma Yoga

By following the above principles, we can lead a life that transcends the pursuit of our mundane desires and enables us to live the unique life intended for each of us individually by the Divine Mind. These sets of principles have been expounded in fair detail by Revered Dadaji and can be found under Essential Teachings, along with the publication Silence Speaks.

All sincere seekers have always been welcomed to this Society, but those seeking self-satisfaction are discouraged. Please keep the Self Surrender Stand in mind as you continue your journey.

Self-Surrender Stand

One main objective of this society is to help people to become God-centered in their everyday life. This can be achieved only by dethroning self-centeredness.

This society therefore cannot help those who assert their ego but helps those who desire to achieve the goal by means of disciplined self-restraint, leading to self-surrender and ultimately to self-annihilation.

All genuine seekers are welcome and are encouraged in every way to solve problems, difficulties and doubts, but those who come for self-satisfaction or self-assertion are discouraged.
