Karmas are actions or deeds, and depending on the basis behind the thoughts which may or may not be manifested in words or deeds, the karmas can either bind us to the endless cycles of birth, life and death or can support our efforts to liberate our souls from matter bound states. Karmas that bind us to cycles of birth, life and death are called karma bhogas and those which do not bind us to matter bound cycles of birth, life and death are called karma yogas.
Most thoughts as well as actions and words based upon the thoughts are karma bhogas which keep us matter bound and trapped in the cycles of birth, life and death. The cycles of birth, life and death is also referred to as the “Wheel of Karma.” As used popularly, as well as in this article, the word karma generally means karma bhoga.
